Is uni a good choice ?

-I have been working for the public sector for 4yrs now my job is no longer secure and there is no future for progress.I am aged 36 n I am a single parent of 1 child aged 3yrs who is curently in full time nursery,I have been despretley wanting to study a course at university for over 1 year now I need a challenge n a career however I will have to give up my job. Although I feel unhappy where i work n feel pasionatley about chassing my goals. I'm worried about giving up my only security, how this will effect me n my son finciially as I would need funding also help with rent nursery fees etc. .. I am in the process of applying to one university but I need some advise n support on my decission.
